Luss Highland Games – Saturday 4 July

Few summer days feel more unmistakably Scottish than the Luss Highland Games. The event has roots going back to 1875 and brings together traditional athletics, piping, Highland dancing and a lively gathering on the western shore of Loch Lomond.

Luss is within easy reach of Tarbet, but the village and surrounding roads will be busy. Arrive early, allow extra travel time and check ticket and parking information before setting out.

Local tip: Turn it into a full day by allowing time for a walk along Luss pier and through the village after the games.

Loch Lomond Summerfest – 4 and 5 July

Loch Lomond Shores in Balloch hosts its free Summerfest weekend from 10am until 5pm on both days. The programme promises live music and performances, street food, drinks, children's entertainment and a bustling festival atmosphere beside the loch.

It is an easy choice for families and mixed groups because the site also has shops, food outlets and other attractions. Parking can fill quickly on major event weekends, so an early start is sensible.

World Cup Football in Tarbet

The 2026 World Cup continues through to the final on 19 July, and Kirk O' The Lochs in Tarbet is advertising live screenings. It is a handy local option for guests who want to catch a match without travelling away from the village.

Check the venue's latest match schedule and booking arrangements directly, particularly for the knockout stages and final.

Loch Lomond Comic Con – 18 and 19 July

Comic Con returns to Loch Lomond Shores for a two-day takeover from 10am to 4pm. Expect traders, collectables, character meet-and-greets, cosplay, props and family activities. Entry is free and dogs are welcome.

The unusual combination of superheroes and the Bonnie Banks makes this one of the month's more colourful outings. Capes may be worn, but waterproofs remain the more dependable Scottish accessory.

Free Ranger-Led Nature Events

The National Park has two confirmed ranger-led events during July:

  • Balmaha Rocks: An Origin Story – Sunday 19 July: guided sessions at 11am and 2pm exploring the geology beneath Balmaha and the Highland Boundary Fault.
  • Wonders of Wildlife at Cashel – Sunday 26 July: guided sessions at 11am and 2pm featuring ponds, streams, meadows and woodland wildlife.

Both events are free but require advance booking. They are especially good options for families who want more than a standard walk.

Markets and Easy Summer Days Out

Loch Lomond Shores runs its Sunday Market on the first and third Sunday of the month, with local food, produce, crafts and gifts. Helensburgh's Market in the Square is also scheduled for 11 and 25 July.

For a slower day close to the cottages, Tarbet Pier has scheduled cruises and waterbus services throughout the summer. Options include circular cruises, crossings to Rowardennan and Inversnaid, and sailings that can be combined with walking routes.

July Walks Near Tarbet and Arrochar

  • Tarbet Isle Walk: a gentle local option when you want scenery without a full hill day.
  • The Cobbler: the area's signature mountain walk, best tackled with suitable footwear and a decent forecast.
  • Tarbet to Rowardennan by boat: combine a loch crossing with walking on the eastern shore.
  • Luss village and shoreline: ideal for a gentler outing around the Highland Games weekend.

What to Pack for July

Bring walking shoes, waterproofs, layers, sunscreen and midge repellent. July can produce glorious evenings and sudden showers in the same hour, which is Scotland's way of keeping everyone alert.
